Sophie Willison
Sophie Willison is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, filmmaker, and publisher whose work navigates themes of identity, queerness, community, and the interplay between art and printed matter. Her practice is deeply rooted in storytelling, often blurring the lines between photography, film, and experimental publishing to create thought-provoking visual narratives.
She is the founder and editor of terra firma, an independent arts and photography magazine established in 2016. Since its inception, the magazine has showcased the work of over 250 artists from 30 countries, serving as a platform for both emerging and established creatives. Sophie’s curatorial vision emphasises collaboration, reimagining print as a space for artistic dialogue and exploration.
Beyond her personal practice, Sophie is deeply engaged in education and community-driven projects. She has designed and led workshops that foster creative expression through sculpture, photography, and alternative processes. Her experience spans cultural institutions and educational programmes in London, France, and Sydney, where she has developed and facilitated innovative creative initiatives. Additionally, she has held various roles within contemporary museums and galleries, further strengthening her connection to the arts and publishing industries.
Currently based in Sydney, Sophie continues to expand her artistic and curatorial practice, developing projects that bridge art, print, and moving image. Her work is driven by a dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering meaningful creative dialogue.
