The Lezbag & Polly Mortimer
Polly Mortimer is a tapestry artist based in London. Her practice examines the architecture of the asylum and the relationship between handcraft and mental health. Parallel to a career in libraries she has edited and facilitated various mental health magazines, in a charity and in a day centre. She has exhibited in Hornsey Library and The Tavistock Centre. And from 2021-23 collaborated on The Common Bag Project with her second born child Mr Lez. She has three children, three grandchildren and lives with her husband Jeremy in North London.
Mr Lez (The Lezbag) is a bag designer born and raised in North London. He created the first classic lezbag in 2016 and now has a permanent collection of bags and averages three collaborative collections annually. Unbridled, his A/W 24 collection with artist Linda Stupart was inspired by their work with horses and made using leather and metalware from the black country. He is an object fetishist and is mad about fabrics and the way colours transform each other in proximity. His work insists on the place of butches, dykes and transexuals in both the evolution of fashion and its history. His singular relationship to his city and his circles informs and propels his practice. Collectivity and collaboration is the core of the lezbag.
